21.09.12- 23.09.12 To commemorate the Silver Jubilee Opening Ceremony, English department organized an  a three day International Conference on English literature in collaboration with English Language Teachers’ Association of India (ELTAI – Literature SIG, Chennai) on “English Literary Studies: Current Trends and Concurrent Challenges”. The total participants including the paper presenters were 179. There were 64 presenters on 22.09.2012 and 52 presenters on 23.09.2012.

Mr P Palaniappan, Hon’ble Minister of Higher Education, Govt of Tamilnadu, Dr Sundaraj Hon’ble Minister of Handlooms & Textiles, Govt of Tamil Nadu, Dr S Sudalaimuthu, Vice-Chancellor, Alagappa University, Karaikudi, Dr S Rajagopalan, Patron, ELTAI, Dr CA Lal, University of Kerala, Trivandrum, Dr Ghansham, Vice President of ELTAI, Bilaspur chapter and our Secretary, Correspondent and Governing Body members honoured this occasion with their presence.

08.10.13. Our college has been identified by ELT@I as the Chapter of Ramanathapuram District. The chapter was inaugurated on 08.10.13. As a celebration of this inauguration, the department organized a One Day Refresher Course on Skill Based Teaching of English for schools and college teachers of Ramanathapuram District. Dr. P.N. Ramani, ELT Consultant, Formerly of Pondicherry University and Loyola College, Chennai and Dr. Joycelin Sharmila, Associate Professor & H.O.D of English, Annammal College of Education, Thoothukudi were the resource persons. Mrs. Sivakama Sundari, Chief Educational Officer, Ramanathapuram and Mr. Rajagopalan, Patron, ELT@I inaugurated the Chapter and Refresher Course. 92 teachers from schools and colleges of Ramanathapuram District participated.
23.10.13 The department of English submitted a proposal to the district collector through the Chief Educational Officer for training 1250 government school English teachers of  Ramanathapuram District on Content Cum Methodology Training – Skills – Based Activity Methods of Teaching and the proposal of ELTAI got approved on 24.01.14

‘Training The Trainers Workshop’- an In-house Training Program was conducted for the faculty members of Department of English. Mr. Rajagopalan, Patron,  ELTAI, Dr. P. N. Ramani, ELT Consultant, Formerly of Pondicherry University and Loyola College, Chennai were the resource persons.
04.02.14 to 15.02.14 A Training programme, “Skills Based activity methods of Teaching of English” for 1250 Government School English teachers of  Ramanathapuram District was organized by Department of English, TBAKC in association with the Education Department of Tamilnadu and  English language Teachers’ Association of India (ELTAI), TBAKC (Ramanathapuram) Chapter at Collectorate Conference Hall. 29.01.16 Department of English, Ramanathapuram TBAKC Chapter of English Language Teachers’ Association of India [ELTAI] organized LangEx (Language Expert) 2015-16, a competition for the other department students to test the four language skills. Dr. S. Sumayaa, Principal, TBAKC inaugurated the programme. Ms. M Y MarjiyaParvin , Alumnae, TBAKC gave a special address in the inaugural function.

26.09.16 The Ramanathapuram [TBAKC] Chapter of ELTAI & Department of English organized LangEx 2016- 17 (Language Expert) for the undergraduate students of our college. Eighty three students participated in the competition. All the four skills (Listening, speaking, reading and writing) were tested in this competition.

The Writer at Home, TBAKC & Ms. C. Rosy, Assistant Professor of English, The Writer at Home, TBAKC. The eighty three participants of the LangEx 2016- 17 competition (Campus Writers) attended the programme .The best ten writings of the Campus Writers were released by Dr. S. Sumayaa, Principal, TBAKC.  Pearl awards were given for the winners of each skill and the overall prize (The pearl award) was also given.

A one- day state level language skills testing, Shakespeare Lives 2017 was organized for school and college students (VIII & IX Std and UG students respectively) by the department of English, ELTAI Ramanthapuram (TBAKC) Chapter. All the four skills (Listening, speaking, reading and writing) were tested in this interschool and intercollegiate competition.  Eight schools and seven colleges participated with a total number of one hundred and twenty students. Dr S Beulah, Assistant Professor, Department of English, Sri Meenakshi Govt. College for Women, Maduraiacted as the chief guest and addressed the gathering on the topic, “Personality Development and Communication Skills”

21. 03.17 To commemorate World Poetry Day the department of English organized Poetry Contest on the topic, “Therapeutic Poetry” for the Campus Creative Writers and the ELTAI members of our college. Thirty nine students participated and Nirosha Abdul Malik of I B Sc Psychology won the first prize. Mariam Adhila. H and S. Nasreen of I B Sc Chemistry bagged the second and third prizes respectively.
28.06.17 The Ramanathapuram (TBAKC) Chapter of ELTAI has been recognized by the Head Office of ELTAI and was given the recognition certificate at Kendriya Vidyalayam, Ernakulam.
29.06.17 Dr. B. Zulaiha Shakeel, Head, Department of English participated and presented a paper on the topic, “Breaking the Ice in Speaking SYTO” in the 42nd Annual and International Conference organized by ELTAI, St. Theresa’s College, Ernakulam.
12.07.17 Ms. H. Parimalam and Ms G M Radhika, Assistant Professors of English, TBAK College acted as the resource persons  in HOTT [Higher Order Thinking Theme] ENGMATICS ’17, A Leadership Training Programme for the class toppers of both English and Mathematics departments of our college.

Ramanathapuram (TBAK College) Chapter of ELTAI and Thoothukudi (Annammal College of Education) Chapter of ELTAI in association with The British Council, Chennai organized the two day training programme on “Communicative Language Teaching” for the teachers who are teaching IX & X Std. in Govt. and Govt. Aided Schools. Ms Premilla Lowe, Teacher/Trainer, The British Council, Chennai was the resource person.
04.01.18 A project proposal on “Library–Centered Teaching of English” was submitted and an amount of Rs. 10,000 was sanctioned for Dr B Zulaiha Shakeel by the English Language Teachers’ Association of India [ELT@I].

The project aims at promoting reading skill.

Reading Club

Reading Club will be started and the target students are the I MA English students.

  • A separate library will be functioning for these club members.
  • A minimum of about 25 books will be maintained by the Reading Club Librarian, Dr. B. Zulaiha Shakeel, Head of the Department.
  • These students will be assessed periodically either by review or interview.
12.03.18 ELTAI Ramanthapuram (TBAKC) Chapter signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Rotary Club of Ramnad to organize District Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) Programme every year in the college campus.
